Always up-to-date – IDS 2009 news now also available via RSS feed

New online service for journalists includes press releases relating to the trade show as well as exhibitor press kits – handling is thankfully very easy

The abundance of information available on the Internet nowadays is overwhelming, and researching information on individual websites is often a very complex process for journalists. The solution to this problem is called RSS feed, a service which is now included in the comprehensive range of media services provided by the International Dental Show, IDS.  With RSS, those who are searching for information can maintain an up-to-date overview of their sources. A so-called “feed reader” automatically checks the most important news sources at individually definable intervals and displays information on where news has been generated.  RSS users therefore receive all new information in the form of feeds which are displayed together in a structured summary. RSS feeds are now part of IDS’s offer for journalists. The service includes access to the newest announcements relating to the trade show’s content, trends and supporting programme, as well as press information from exhibitors (www.IDS-cologne.de  – Press – Press releases –  button under “Press contact” or  Press – Exhibitor press kits –  button under “Subscriptions”). This enables interested parties to maintain a clear overview of all news relating to IDS 2009. Journalists in the IDS mailing list will obviously continue to receive press releases on the event via e-mail in future. They will also be available – together with the exhibitors’ virtual press kits – via the homepage http://www.IDS-cologne.de as usual.
RSS Feed – this is how it works
You can subscribe to an RSS feed anonymously, and without having to provide an e-mail address, by clicking an appropriate RSS icon () or by entering the Internet address of the RSS feed in a so-called “feed reader”. You than therefore rest assured that no unwanted e-mails will land in your inbox. And the feed is just as easy to cancel: you simply delete it from your reader.  Modern browsers such as Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 7 can read and update RSS feeds without the need for any additional software. The software that is required if you are using an older browser – the “feed reader” – can be downloaded for free from the Internet. It is available as a stand-alone programme for your PC or as an online version, which you can access from any PC with an Internet connection. A few example links are:  http://www.google.com/reader/
http://www.bloglines.com/
http://www.netvibes.com/ The free software for Windows PCs can be downloaded from various sites, for example: http://www.feedreader.com/ (The German version can be downloaded for free from the websites of a number of German computer magazine publishers). The IDS (International Dental Show) takes place every two years in Cologne and is hosted by the GFDI Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Dental-Industrie mbH (Society for the Promotion of the German Dental Industry), the commercial enterprise of the Association of German Dental Manufacturers (VDDI), and organised by Koelnmesse GmbH, Cologne.
