IDS 2021 - VDDI Declaration – Mark Stephen Pace (Chairman)

Following the announcement that a major international company will not take part in the IDS 2021, the VDDI has received numerous enquiries from dental trade media asking for a statement from the association.

The VDDI appreciates and understands your interest in the IDS, the world's leading dental trade fair, and the complex preparations leading to the 39th IDS 2021. In the run-up to every IDS, we receive registrations, re-registrations, late registrations and, unfortunately, cancellations. Being the world's leading trade fair for the dental industry, the IDS aims to present the entire multifaceted and complex market activities of the global dental industry and it’s too bad about any company missing from this overall picture of the IDS. We realise that the IDS 2021 will be different from previous events. The corona crisis affects the entire world and all areas of life equally, including the IDS. The safety and hygiene concept drawn up by the Koelnmesse takes into account all relevant regulations for trade fairs as well as the safety of exhibitors and visitors. At the beginning of July, the General Meeting of the VDDI as well as the committees of the Executive Board and the Advisory Board commissioned the Koelnmesse and GFDI mbH to develop scenarios and criteria so that, at the beginning of October, successful participation in the IDS 2021 could be evaluated objectively. We have identified this as the latest possible time for a final decision in this extremely rapidly developing and changing situation. We know that no exhibitor, whether new or regular, whether VDDI member or not, takes the easy way out with his decision. The VDDI is sorry whenever a company withdraws from the IDS as every exhibitor, regardless of size and focus of activity, constitutes an important part of the overall architecture of the International Dental Show. Nevertheless, it is and remains the individual and autonomous decision of each company to plan, evaluate and decide on its marketing measures. This also includes participation or non-participation in an IDS. Of course we would respect this decision, no matter how much we would regret it. For all exhibitors who have registered so far and those who are still in the internal consulting phase, the IDS is an important starting point for them to re-enter the international market and consolidate or expand their market position. gez.
