PRELIMINARY REPORT - IDS - International Dental Show - 2009 in Cologne

Approximately 1,750 exhibitors from 55 countries will present approximately 1,100 innovations on more than 138,000 m2 of exhibition space – the exhibition centre, services and supporting programme round out the total IDS Cologne experience

The 33rd International Dental Show – IDS – is gearing up to get underway. The dental industry’s leading business and contact platform from 24 to 28 March 2009 is also promising to become a festival of innovations, trends and ideas. In 2007, exhibitors presented approximately 1,100 innovations. In the coming year, IDS organisers are expecting approximately 1,750 exhibitors from 55 countries, who, in 138,000 m2, shall introduce their new product information and services. The proportion of foreigners at the IDS is more than 62 percent, making the 33rd International Dental Show a world leader in all segments: a truly modern dental trade fair. More than 100,000 visitors are expected at the trade fairgrounds in Cologne in March 2009. Dr. Martin Rickert, Chairman of the Association of German Dental Manufacturers (VDDI ): “Participation in the IDS, the leading international trade fair for dental products, is a must for exhibitors and suppliers of innovative products as well as for dentists and dental technicians and users of dental products. Anyone active in the field of dentistry as a dentist, dental technician, assistant or dental hygienist, prophylaxis assistant or even a manufacturer or dealer, or would like to become one, must attend this international world market place in Cologne.” Oliver P. Kuhrt, CEO of Koelnmesse GmbH, sums up:
“Thanks to the auspicious signs, the IDS shall once again write a new chapter in its success story. Of that there can be no doubt.”
Around 1,750 exhibitors from more than 55 countries, of which 62 percent are foreign firms, shall present the dental industry’s latest trends and innovations from all over the world between 24 and 28 March in Cologne. More than 200 new exhibitors are proof of how engaging the IDS has become. Currently, the strongest participation in Germany hails from Italy, the US, Switzerland, the Republic of Korea and Great Britain. Morocco and Singapore are participating for the first time. At present, the largest of the 11 contingents come from the US, Korea, Italy and Brazil. Thanks to surface enlargements, exhibitors can offer their visitors more elbow room in 2009. The motto is: more space means more information and communication at the stands. For the first time on 138,000 m2 of exhibition space – in Halls 3, 4, 10 and 11 – the world’s leading dentistry and dental medicine trade fair shall take place in 2009. The IDS 2007 had 130,000 m2, in 2005 it was 107,000, in 2003 it was 92,000 m2. Not only is the physical space growing, that visitor numbers may yet again increase in 2009 is also within the realm of possibility. More than 100,000 visitors from 149 countries enjoyed the IDS experience in 2007. Professional highlights in the supporting programme: Speaker's Corner and more
With Speaker's Corner in Hall 3.1 right next to the south entrance, the IDS is again creating the experts’ meeting place, which was so successful in 2005. There, during each day of the fair, IDS exhibitors shall present information on new products, services and procedural techniques. The proven policy that the first day of the fair, in this case 24 March 2009, shall be reserved exclusively for specialised trade dealers and importers shall also be maintained. This “Dealers’ Day” offers the opportunity to conduct intensive sales negotiations undisturbed in a conducive atmosphere. Interesting supporting programme for dentists and dental technicians
The outstanding exhibitor offering at the IDS 2009 is complemented by the German Dental Association (BZÄK) and the Association of German Dental Technicians (VDZI) with further technical highlights. In addition to the 5th dentechnica forum, the VDZI shall avail itself of the trade fair again as a platform for the newly engaged young talent in the dental technician trade. On 26 March, the IDS will be the venue for the 12th Gysi Awards for trainees, where winners shall receive their gold, silver and bronze medals. The award-winning works shall be exhibited on the distributor level between Halls 10 and 11. At its exhibition stand in Hall 11.2, the VDZI shall be available as in past years to discuss and answer questions on matters of business, accounting technology and professional policy.
The German Dental Association (BZÄK) shall be represented at the IDS 2009 along with the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists, the German Society of Dentistry and Oral Medicine, the Institute of German Dentists, the trade magazine Zahnärztliche Mitteilungen and the Stiftung Hilfswerk Deutscher Zahnärzte für Lepra- und Notgebiete (German dentists’ foundation that provides emergency aid and treatment for leprosy sufferers). In addition to presentations on specialised topics, the Stand in Hall 11.2 shall offer dentists information on all the participating partner organisations and, last but not least, the chance to meet with colleagues. Such opportunities make the IDS Cologne from 24 to 28 March the place to be in the world of dentistry. A modern exhibition centre for modern business
First-time visitors to the IDS in the coming year will find the 33rd International Dental Show in a newer, even more modern atmosphere. The completely renovated area of the Cologne trade fair sets the standard. The Messeboulevard– “the main artery of the fairgrounds” – guides visitors easily and makes for short trips between halls. At the same time, it is an exclusive service and shopping promenade, which begins at the new south entrance. This is the new gate to Cologne’s city centre and to the whole world, just a few steps to the Cologne Messe/Deutz station. With the new south entrance the modernized IDS east and west entrances form the attractive entrance portals. Last but not least, the new Piazza is the open-air meeting point in the midst of the otherwise glass-enclosed Messeboulevard. Easy and efficient trade fair visit thanks to new service tools
The modern fair ground of the Koelnmesse can be easily reached via numerous on-line services. The visit, trip and stay can be digitally organised problem-free prior to the IDS. With the business matchmaking tool, for example, exhibitors can be contacted before the trade fair begins. Registration and ticket purchases can be carried out with ease at the online shop, and the e-ticket is valid for trade fair admission and for local bus, tram and rail service, and it allows the bearer to bypass the box office and proceed directly into the halls in the fast lane (red carpet treatment). Those with coupons should exchange them for an e-ticket at the online-shop early in the run-up to the trade fair. With LeadSuccess, exhibitors and visitors can once again optimally organise their contacts on-site. Travelling to the IDS from anywhere in Germany can be done by any means of transport without any difficulties. The Deutsche Bahn rail service offers discounted return fares starting from 89 Euros. The Cologne/Bonn airport, a hub for many low-cost carriers, is only 15 minutes away by rapid-transit. The Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Amsterdam airports are also very close thanks to high-speed train connections. For those who are driving, there are some 15,000 parking spaces at the Koelnmesse GmbH. Information on this and the fair in general can be found at www.ids cologne.de.    Discover Cologne – individual events around the Cathedral City
The city of Cologne is part of the total IDS experience, with all it has to offer at the end of March. For those who would like to discover the Rhine metropolis with customers, colleagues and friends, can get a taste of “Cologne culture” with the Stadtrallye with anecdotes and stories about the cathedral city. You can also get a look behind the window blinds of the mediaeval city, or relax on a cheerful tour centred around the Cologne national drink “Kölsch” through the world renowned Cologne breweries. IDS takes place in Cologne every two years and is organized by the GFDI Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Dental-Industrie mbH, the commercial enterprise of the Association of German Dental Manufacturers (VDDI) and staged by Koelnmesse GmbH, Cologne.” Note for editors:
