The economic situation of the German dental industry
The results of the annual Treuhand survey of the VDDI (Association of German Dental Manufacturers) from January to March showed surprisingly good business developments:
- The total turnover of the German dental industry in 2021 increased to 6.2 billion € (+28.6% compared with 2020), not least due to the static base effect.
- The export markets contributed significantly to this with a total of 4.1 billion € (+39.5%).
- The domestic turnover again grew by nearly 12% to about 2.1 billion €.
The predominantly very positive expectations of all member companies across all areas, with regard to the current financial year 2022, were abruptly destroyed by the Russian attack on Ukraine. The overall and financial consequences of the ongoing war are unforeseeable.
Generally, we can observe stable business trends and an optimistic outlook in the membership.
The economic survey from May 2022 also confirmed mainly positive expectations for the current year. A comparison of the 1st half of 2022 with the same period of the previous year exhibited positive expectations with the clearly overwhelming majority of members.
Overall, there are very positive signals, both domestically and also abroad across all areas. In particular, we see an increased demand for high-quality restorations, for “high-end dentistry”. Clearly, the constant preoccupation with health issues has reminded many people of the value of personal health and quality of life.
